“All the polls, internal polls, external polls, show it's incredibly close. And I think everybody needs to keep in mind there's that two-, three-point, margin of error, and the undercounting historically of Trump support.” –POLITICO’s Chris Cadelago on the race between Trump and Harris

POLITICO’s Chris Cadelago joined Tony and Juan for a special 2024 Election Episode of Dear San Diego.

Chris provided really smart takes on local, state, and national races, and shared some behind-the-scenes info, too. Chris covered the Trump White House and the Biden White House. He is currently working on building a statewide bureau for POLITICO in California, and covering Kamala Harris and her presidential campaign.

Chris agreed Harris has been mostly flawless since entering the race following Biden’s self-inflicted exit. He also leaves no doubt that the bombshell 2018 book, Fire & Fury, accurately portrays Trump and his time in the White House. But Chris stopped well short of predicting a Harris victory this November.

“All the polls, internal polls, external polls, show it's incredibly close,” Chris said on the podcast. “And I think everybody needs to keep in mind there's that two-, three-point, margin of error, and the undercounting historically of Trump support.”

Tony and Chris met back in 2009 when Chris was getting his start in journalism as an intern at the San Diego Union-Tribune. From there, Chris would go onto the Sacramento Bee before landing at POLITICO in 2018. Chris’s experience covering politics at all levels of government gives him excellent insights into local, state and national races, insights he shares on this episode of Dear San Diego.

In addition to sitting down with Dear San Diego, Chris wrote a new story for POLITICO on the San Diego County Supervisor’s race between Kevin Faulconer and Supervisor Tara Lawson-Remer.

Tune in to hear his hot takes and also tidbits about where Chris gets his news and what Tony thought of Chris when they met in the newsroom 15 years ago, back when Tony admits he was routinely criticized by his editors for not mentoring young reporters.
